This is a vintage Soviet movie poster for "White Sun of the Desert" (Белое солнце пустыни) а Soviet "Western" or "Eastern" film originally released in 1970. This is a legendary Soviet film which blends action, comedy, music and drama, as well as memorable quotes, made it so successful at the Russian box-office and keeps the movie popular today. Its main theme song, "Your Noble Highness Lady Fortune" (Ваше благородие, госпожа Удача, music: Isaak Schwarz, lyrics: Bulat Okudzhava, performed by Pavel Luspekaev) became a hit. The film is watched by cosmonauts before most space launches as a good luck ritual.

Poster & Artist:

This poster was printed in Moscow by Reklamfilm (Рекламфильм) on February 22nd, 1982. It was designed by Alexander Lemshenko (Александр Лемещенко) a prolific film and propaganda poster artist who was active from 1951 until his death in 1984. This poster was printed for a re-release of the original Elusive Avengers movie in 1982 of which 59,000 copies were printed.

Size & Condition:

The poster measures 86cmx55cm or 33.8x21.6 inches. It is in very good condition with light creasing, some discoloration along the folds and bottom of the poster. Displays very well as-is. The photos attached are of the poster itself, we only have one.

Film: 

The film is a version of a story about four youngsters who become heroes in the Russian Civil War. Danka, orphaned son of a Red agent, whose father was tortured and executed by the warlord Lyuty before his eyes, and his sister Ksanka join Valerka, a former schoolboy, and Yashka, a devil-may-care gypsy. They make a pledge of mutual assistance, determined to exact revenge on the bandits who are bringing so much suffering to peaceful villagers. The friends then embark on a series of daring adventures.
